Project Description
This project aims to support the youth of Haiti’s low-income urban areas (called “popular zones”) who are most vulnerable to being both victims of a crime and perpetrators of violence. This project aims to increase security and stability in Haiti by: (1) enhancing the capacity of civil society organizations and the Haitian National Police to manage peace and security challenges; (2) having spaces and activities that bring together youth the community and the Haitian National Police in an effort to reduce mistrust and violence; and (3) improving local development and income generating activities for vulnerable groups to productively engage them in society and their communities.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased community and youth participation in security decision-making and police work; (2) increased involvement of youth in peace programming (violence prevention programming and public security intervention at the local level) and (3) increased effectiveness of security programming by Haitian National Police in Port au Prince and in popular zones.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of January 2022 include: (1) reduced threats from instability and state fragility for Haiti’s population; (2) increased community and youth participation in security decision-making and police work in Port au Prince; (3) increased involvement of youth in peace programming in the project intervention areas; and (4) increased effectiveness of the Haitian National Police’s security programming;
