The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased engagement among targeted local leaders to promote localized strategies for peacebuilding and conflict transformation; (2) increased opportunities for targeted communities to engage in constructive dialogue and peace initiatives; (3) increased knowledge of targeted communities of key peacebuilding concepts such as tolerance reconciliation dialogue conflict resolution and localized peace; and (4) increased promotion of role models promoting peaceful conflict transformation in targeted communities.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (January 2019) include: (1) supported the implementation of the revitalized peace process in South Sudan at the local level through radio programming peace rallies stakeholder consultations and grassroots conflict resolution and reconciliation initiatives; (2) civil society peace events held by 11 sub-grant recipients ranging from supporting women's participation in the peace process local trauma healing economic empowerment intergenerational dialogues disseminating the peace agreement and resolving local challenges such as shared water points; (3) women's role in peacebuilding was a major focus of these events. Most managed by women-led civil society organizations; and (4) the partner implemented an evaluation that indicated that the target communities' levels of peaceful resolution decreased throughout the project. This worrying finding may indicate that while peace may be held between signatories of the Peace Agreement at the national level violence at the local level still may run the risk of increasing.
