Project Description
March 2017 - Civilians in Libya continue to suffer as a result of conflict insecurity political instability and a collapsing economy. The direct humanitarian impact has been that hundreds of thousands of people across the country are now suffering living in unsafe conditions and high risk hostile environments with little or no access to life-saving assistance. It is estimated that 1.3 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in Libya. This number includes 241 000 internally displaced people 356 000 returnees and 437 000 vulnerable Libyans. In addition there are an estimated 100 600 refugees and 195 000 migrants in Libya which are facing significant protection concerns with their status making them particularly vulnerable to abuse marginalization and exploitation. Given the current environment in Libya many people have embarked on the perilous journey across the Mediterranean Sea to reach Europe in hope for better safety. With GAC’s support the Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED) is providing emergency cash assistance for up to 5 600 of the most vulnerable conflict-people particularly female-headed households in the Tripoli and surrounding areas of Libya. Project activities include distributing multi-purpose emergency cash assistance to the most vulnerable households.
