Project Description
March 2017 - Niger continues to face significant humanitarian challenges related to food insecurity malnutrition and forced displacement. The expansion of the conflict in Nigeria which has led to 302 387 internally displaced persons returnees and Nigerian refugees in Diffa region has added to Niger’s chronic vulnerability. It is expected that humanitarian needs remain high in Niger’s Diffa region throughout 2017. With GAC’s support Action Against Hunger is addressing the urgent humanitarian needs of up to 78 137 people in Diffa region. Project activities include: (1) rehabilitating up to ten water points benefiting up to 5 000 people; and (2) distributing gas kits for domestic use to reduce cooking-related costs and therefore increase the purchasing power of households benefiting up to 3 500 people.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased access to better water and sanitation infrastructures as well as improved hygiene conditions; and (2) increase purchasing power of households and reduced effects of demographic pressures on the environment. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
