Project Description
This project aims to enable returnees in newly liberated areas of Anbar and Ninewah Iraq to more effectively resolve housing land and property disputes and access essential civil documentation. Project activities include: (1) improving engagement between government humanitarian and peacebuilding actors and customary justice systems; (2) ensuring more effective resolution of housing land and property disputes by ethno-religious and tribal leaders in conformity with Iraqi and international law and through participation in more formal legal processes; and (3) improving sustainable access to civil documentation and/or housing land and property by returnees.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased understanding of customary justice systems and housing land and property dispute resolution among government humanitarian and peacebuilding actors; (2) improved capacity in relation to housing land and property rights; collaborative dispute resolution; and advocacy methods among ethno-religious and tribal leaders and government humanitarian and peace building actors; and (3) more sustainable access to civil documentation and/or resolution of housing land and property disputes among returnees in Anbar and Ninewah.
