Project Description

This project aims to increase the effectiveness of Iraqi authorities in recovering and safeguarding vulnerable human remains from mass graves in areas of Iraq that have been liberated from Da’esh. It also aims to increase participation among family members especially women and girls in the process of locating and identifying their missing relatives.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved understanding among Iraqi authorities on how to develop effective inter-agency cooperation in dealing with mass grave sites; (2) improved compliance by Iraqi authorities with international norms and standards in conducting mass graves investigations; (3) increased access for Iraqi families to mechanisms that enable them to contribute to locating and identifying missing relatives; and (4) improved access by families of missing persons to trusted reliable and secure means of identifying missing relatives.
