Project Description
This project a partnership between World Vision Développement international Desjardins (DID) and Enablis aims to improve the economic prosperity of youth women and men and vulnerable groups in Senegal by strengthening the management capacities of school institutions focusing on vocational training using a gender-sensitive approach. Improved delivery of employment skills programs enables the targeted population to meet labor market and entrepreneurial demands as well as foster linkages between educational institutions and the private sector through internship programs. The total number of direct beneficiaries is approximately 1 500 young people aged between 18 and 24 years who represent the most vulnerable age group facing unemployment problems. The project focuses on out-of-school and unemployed youth and those enrolled in technical and vocational training establishments (TVETs) paying particular attention to the inclusion of women and young people with disabilities. The project also aims to benefit 50 staff and 103 TVET educators through the capacity building of staff.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) strengthened organizational management of 67 skills-for-employment educational institutions by 70%; (2) improved delivery of skills-for-employment programs that incorporate environmental issues and satisfy various labour markets or entrepreneurship needs for youth women men and vulnerable groups demonstrated by 80% satisfaction rate out of 1487 youth; and (3) enhanced and sustainable collaboration between institutions that teach skills-for-employment and the private sector demonstrated by 69% of annual youth graduates finding work in their field of study.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (December 2020) include: (1) 2 000 young direct beneficiaries were reached by the project compared to the final target of 1 084 young people; (2) 1 052 young learners (of which 766 were women) from technical and vocational training institutions (TVET) and 230 out-of-school young people (of which 112 were women) were trained and supported towards professional integration for a total of 1 282 young direct beneficiaries; (3) 615 young people (of which 365 were women) have opted for entrepreneurship and 185 young people (of which 110 were women) have formally created businesses in the three departments of the region; (4) 47 young people (of which 24 were women) gained access to credit from a partner microfinance institution; (5) 49 young people (of which 26 were women) found paid employment in the Kolda region; (6) 725 young learners (of which 426 were women) benefited from an internship; (7) 683 young learners (of which 513 were girls and women) participated in the mentoring program; (8) the Youth Ready (YR) curriculum a development approach designed by World Vision to enable beneficiaries to acquire basic skills and knowledge to play a more active role in their communities was integrated into eight public TVET programs which benefited 804 learners (of which 413 were women); (9) the eight public technical and vocational training institutions that are partners in the project are more operational better managed and thanks to material support offer a better quality of education; (10) recognizing that the daily difficulties experienced by the young women beneficiaries of the project could lead to the abandonment of activities the project deemed it useful to organize a workshop.
