Project Description
This project aims to support local civil society and the Colombian State with the implementation and monitoring of transitional justice. The project contributes to building confidence of the Colombian society particularly women and girls in the transitional justice system and contributes to the reaffirmation of the rule of law.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased confidence and participation of civil society in particular women and girls and justice stakeholders to develop and implement gender-sensitive transitional justice mechanisms; (2) emblematic cases of international crimes committed against vulnerable groups and in particular women and girls are documented and brought to court by human rights lawyers.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (August 2022) include : (1) decision-makers actioned ten peacebuilding and gender-responsive justice sector recommendations developed by women victims and civil society leaders representing vulnerable people; (2) made 31 significant advances in symbolic human rights violations cases for vulnerable people particularly women and girls; (3) 166 victims of human rights violations committed during the conflict including 100 women 15 girls 34 men and 17 boys received free legal representation through this project; (4) 64 women leaders increased their knowledge of transitional justice and capacities to conduct sensitization activities on this topic; (5) 754 people (86%women) increased their awareness on peacebuilding participation mechanisms through popular education techniques; and (6) 38 peacebuilding initiatives implemented by Colombian civil society organizations from conflict-affected regions of the country aimed at developing collective memories of the impacts of the conflict on local populations.
