Project Description
The project aims to improve the pre-service teacher training program directly at four Teacher Training Institutes (TTIs) in Maputo Tete Cabo Delgado and Niassa provinces by working with the TTI Instructors student-teachers current teachers and school management teams to explore innovative and effective teaching and management approaches. To ensure the ongoing effectiveness of the training the project would include an innovative ‘real-time’ feedback function between the TTIs and the partner primary schools. Furthermore the project would work with the community to emphasize the linkages between formal education poverty reduction livelihood opportunities and socio-economic growth.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: 1) strengthened pre-service teacher training program; 2) improved in-service supervision and training for student-teachers and current teachers; and 3) strengthened school management.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of December 2024 include: (1) 4 685 teachers (2 300 women) graduated from 4 teacher training institutes (TTIs) following national standards and approved programs. These TTIs now have a total of 6 415 student-teachers and 3 135 teachers (tutors); (2) 62 primary schools in Chibututuine (Maputo Province) Chitima (Tete Province) Cuamba (Niassa Province) and Pemba (Cabo Delgado Province) made changes by creating welcoming spaces for girls’ specific needs; (3) distributed 225 000 books (155 titles) to the TTIs libraries in Chibututuine Chitima Cuamba and Pemba; (4) trained 387 directors and deputy directors and 344 teachers on the role of practicum schools; (5) equipped 48 TTIs trainers to use online training tools (e.g. google classrooms); (6) observed 5 132 student-teachers (80%) from the 4 TTIs using key interactive methodologies; and (7) developed 5 teacher training manuals and printed and distributed around 96 000 copies to all 38 TTIs in Mozambique.
