Project Description
This project supports the clearance of explosive remnants of war and improvised explosive devices (IED) in Ramadi and other areas liberated from Da’esh in Iraq. In order to facilitate the return of internally displaced persons and enable the access of stabilization and humanitarian actors the United States Department of State Bureau of Political-Military Affairs Office of Weapons Removal and Abatement has established a fund that supports the deployment of IED Defeat experts to survey habitable sections of Ramadi and other newly liberated areas as well as critical infrastructure and to locate and render safe as many IED as possible. In parallel the IED Defeat experts provide training to Iraqi civil defense explosive ordnance disposal assets to enable them to address complex IEDs in the long term.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved implementation of stability tasks by stabilization actors in Ramadi and other newly liberated areas; and (2) improved conduct of explosive ordnance disposal operations by Iraqi institutions in Ramadi and other newly liberated areas.
