Project Description
The overall objective of this project is to increase the capacity of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) to organise transparent and credible elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo that conform to international norms. Canada's contribution is part of a multi-donor fund that is managed by the United Nations Development Programme and supports activities that contribute to that objective notably the up-dating of the electoral roll.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) the capacity of the National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) to manage the electoral cycle on an on-going basis is increased; (2) operational needs essential to free and equitable electoral processes are satisfied; (3) dialogue between CENI and its partners (civil society international institutions media and political parties) is reactivated and effective.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of (April 2017) include: strengthened capacities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) through the support of two technical advisors: a legal expert and a specialist in civic and electoral education.
