Project Description
This project aims to improve statistical capacity in developing countries and to reinforce results-based management as a way to increase development effectiveness and to monitor the UN-led 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals. Statistics Canada has a long history of helping national statistical offices in developing countries build institutional statistical capacity and has built strong relationships with key international and multilateral partners including The Partnership in Statistics for Development in the 21st Century (PARIS21). The administrative arrangement allows Statistics Canada to dedicate resources to engage on PARIS21-related activities coordinate on projects as required and take part in technical assistance missions.
Expected Results
The expected result of Statistics Canada’s support to PARIS21 is: enhanced capacity of statistical authorities in participating countries and regions to generate an accountable and transparent system of official statistics to support decision making processes.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (June 2017) include: (1) Statistics Canada helped develop national statistics offices in developing countries by providing diagnostic analysis of processes and tools technical assistance and statistical capacity-building in three partner countries; and (2) Statistics Canada helped develop global resources and best practices in statistics. For example they led the Reference Group to update the Paris21 National Strategy for the Development of Statistics guidelines to reflect new data realities that national statistics offices face.
