Project Description

The project aims to improve youth resilience. Youth facing hardship are being provided with opportunities to earn some income and gain valuable job and life experience through the implementation of small-scale youth-led projects. Participants receive training in leadership communication CV writing running a small business and coaching. In this way the project is addressing the excessive youth unemployment levels. This project is one of over 200 projects that make up the United Nations' 2011 Consolidated Appeal Process (CAP) for the West Bank and Gaza. The 2011 CAP worth over US$575 million allows the international community to help spare Palestinians from the worst effects of the ongoing crisis by delivering humanitarian assistance increasing the protection of civilians improving the collection of humanitarian information and strengthening the United Nations' humanitarian coordination structure. Overall through this appeal non-governmental organizations and the United Nations help restore human dignity and alleviate further poverty institutional weakness and instability in the West Bank and Gaza.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of the end of the project (September 2012) include: 844 vulnerable and disadvantaged youth (506 males and 338 females) were provided with short-term work opportunities and involvement in community projects. The youth were also given training and information on a range of issues including leadership communications resume writing job interview skills micro-business start-up and awareness of gender-based violence. This contributed to increasing their personal and professional development. These results helped provide young people with opportunities to earn some income and gain life skills and valuable employment experiences.
