Project Description
The project consists of developing and implementing a sound poverty targeting mechanism for the social safety net programs in Lebanon. The project goes from the initial stages of development through to the launch of the national targeting program and includes the recruitment and training of personnel to carry out the survey and analysis work necessary to develop the targeting system as well as the creation of an information management system. This results in an efficient and transparent tool for identifying the poorest households in Lebanon and in trained personnel able to use the system to improve social welfare programs well beyond the end of the project.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results as of March 31 2012: The poverty survey has been completed; the personnel to conduct the survey and analyze the findings have been recruited and trained; and the offices and information management system and equipment have been procured. The plan for the poverty targeting program was approved by the Lebanese cabinet in June 2012. As a result by the end of December 2012 some 32 000 houselolds will receive a package of assistance consisting of health education and electricity subsidies.
