Project Description
The project goal is to generate improved employment opportunities through support to micro/small and medium enterprise development with an emphasis on the country's marginalized groups in particular women and youth. The project purpose is to provide demand-driven non-financial services to M/SMEs in six selected Governorates in an effective and sustainable manner. The project impact is a strengthened M/SME sector in 6 targeted Governorates in Upper Egypt providing up to 15 000 new jobs and higher incomes (especially for women and youth) leading to a reduction of poverty in these areas
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 31 2013 include creation and support of six regional enterprise development centres staffed with fully trained local professionals. These centres are currently operating and delivering a package of demand-driven and high quality non-financial services including training in management. The total number of clients served by all regional enterprise development centres during 2012-2013 was 1455 of which 41.3 % of total clients served were female. The total number of jobs created because of the enterprise development services was 1066 (312 females 754 males). The project also conducted several capacity building activities to enable these regional enterprise development centres to design and deliver responsive business development services to clients. Capacity development opportunities were equally offered to male and female staff at all levels including regional enterprise development centre staff partner NGOs board of director members and bank staff. The total number of capacity development opportunities offered was 332 (243 males 89 females).
