Project Description
The project’s main thrust is to transfer know-how in implementing and applying training programs developed based on the principles of the skills-based approach (SBA). Training institutions identified by the Ministry of Vocational Training and Education experiment in implementing programs in four training areas where skilled labour is in high demand. These areas are the same as those targeted in the experimental project: refrigeration and air conditioning graphic arts and industries automotive maintenance and water management. The project proposes to pursue the implementation of vocational training programs with a view to generalizing the SBA in the vocational training sector in order to meet the needs and expectations of the workplace. The Canadian Executing Agency is the Consortium for International Development in Education (CIDE).
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (March 2013) include: 102 managers of the National Training Institution have been trained in awareness for Competency-Based Approach (CBA) that teaches concrete skills rather than promote abstract learning; 145 Instructional Design methodologists have completed training in implementation CBA programs; the web site of the project is fully operational; experiment of CBA in the sector of graphic arts and automotive maintenance is completed. This contributed to supporting the Algerian authorities responsible for vocational training.
