Project Description
The project assists the Government of Ukraine to develop pilot and up-scale a model regional development process that utilizes the capacities of a mobilized civil society (men women and youth) to formulate and implement regional-level development strategies. At the national level the project supports the Ukrainian government to design and implement regional development policy. At the regional level it assists regional administrations to design and implement regional development strategies with business and public participation. An extension of the project beginning in 2010 aims to scale up the project’s achievements to the national level.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results acheived as of the end of the project (March 2013) include: 75 out of 90 trainees (23 male/52 female from 13 districts) graduated from the Training of Trainers Program on regional strategic planning project management and alternative financing for regional economic development. These graduates were also certified as trainers with the National Academy of Public Administration. Through the National Training Program developed by the project 600 civil servants and other stakeholders from 22 regions have increased knowledge related to regional strategic planning project management and alternative financing for regional economic development. In addition 13 regions engaged in 39 strategic planning and investment projects which were gender-responsive and environmentally sustainable.
