Project Description
This project is part of CIDA's International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) funded by the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy (YES). The IYIP contributes to the YES by providing a large spectrum of Canadian graduates with valuable international development work experience abroad.
Expected Results
The expected intermediate outcomes for this project include: (i) increased awareness among female and male Canadian youth of the equal possibility of working internationally; (ii) enhanced equal employability of female and male International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) interns in Canada and in the field of international development; (iii) improved capacity of female and male IYIP interns to contribute to international development in a gender-sensitive way.
Progress & Results Achieved
Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (S065732) coordinated 20 internships (113 F 7 M) in India. Results achieved as of the end of the project (March 2014): Increased professional and personal knowledge and capacities on account of the internships’ experience in India. As a result 4 interns managed to secure employment (2 in India and 2 in Canada) and the rest are currently seeking employment opportunities in Canada India and other countries in the international development sector; The project developed the interns’ professional and personal capacities to look for employment in the international development area both nationally and internationally. It also exposed interns to the dynamics of India in a project setting due to conducting various researches and gathering primary and secondary data.
