Project Description
This project aims to improve the quality of education in public schools in Rwanda. It provides teaching support training and professional development for 250 teacher trainers including 76 head and deputy head teachers and 114 parent-teacher committee representatives. More than 700 teachers and over 50 000 students indirectly benefit from the project.
Expected Results
The expected intermediate outcomes for this project include: improved classroom and administrative environment supportive of male and female school children's participation and learning outcomes; enhanced enabling environment conducive to more equitable gender sensitive and positive quality education.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (October 2014) include: (1) there is strong evidence that all 48 schools have improved learning outcomes and participation of children; (2) on average participant schools increased their transition rates (advancing from one grade level to the next) from 58.8% to 74.4% and their completion rates to 99.4%; (3) 81% of the school leaders surveyed indicated a belief that improvements in exam results are due to the project and 50% of these school leaders also believe that their schools dropout rates have reduced ‘’much’’ or ‘‘very much’’ as a direct result of the project; (4) Gasabo schools are performing better in relation to the intermediate outcomes of the project; and (5) overall 54% of the 48 schools have made significant progress towards the project’s intermediate outcomes. These results contributed to improve the access of girls and boys to quality education.
