Project Description
This project is part of CIDA's International Aboriginal Youth Internships (IAYI) initiative. The internships focus on increasing the awareness engagement and participation of Aboriginal youth in international development while providing them with opportunities to expand their employment skills. The IAYI initiative is part of CIDA’s Global Citizens Program that seeks to raise awareness increase knowledge and provide opportunities for youth to participate in international development.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (August 2012) include: Four young Aboriginal women and men successfully completed internships spending four months in an overseas placement working alongside international development projects. They gained practical professional experience in international development and specialized skills that will give them a competitive edge in the labour market. The interns shared their experiences and the knowledge they gained through online blogs and presentations reaching Canadian and international audiences including young Aboriginal women and men.
