Project Description

The goal of the project is to contribute to increased employment and self-employment in the Micro Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME) sector in Ukraine. The project aims to improve the quality of business training programs offered in three local training institutions to enhance the skills level of graduates and to strengthen the capacity of the institutions to improve access to training for women and other equity groups - particularly in economically disadvantaged areas. The project activities include developing and delivering new training programs teaching resources and curricula; training of trainers; and developing stronger linkages and relationships among government community and private sector stakeholders. The project partners include the Anton Makarenko Industrial-Pedagogic College (Kyiv); the Lviv Higher Vocational School of Restaurant Service and Tourism; and the Ivano-Frankivsk Higher Vocational School of Hotel Service and Tourism. The project is designed to benefit 14 000 students over the course of the project.

Expected Results

The expected intermediate outcomes of this project include: (1) Improved quality responsiveness and effectiveness of business training programs offered by partner skills training institutions; and (2) Improved access to quality business training at partner skills training institutions for women and socially-vulnerable groups.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of the end of the project (October 2016) include: (1) establishment of school boards in each of the three pilot schools consisting of educators and industry representatives providing curriculum development input; (2) establishment of industry advisory boards in each of the three pilot schools; (3) 14 manuals and 36 courses were developed; (4) 44 school managers and program managers were trained (85% female) in new instructional techniques; (5) employment and self-employment rate of 1 750 students/graduates (1 100 female 650 male) improved by 12% reaching 95%; (6) 1 050 graduates surveyed reported an average satisfaction rate of 86%; (7) 160 employers surveyed reported an average satisfaction rate of 86.9% with the training provided; and (8) a new occupational standard for the administration of small and medium businesses developed by the project was approved by the Ministry of Education and Science and Ministry of Social Policy. The project contributed to increased employment and self-employment in the Micro Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSME) sector in Ukraine by improving the quality of business training programs offered to 14 000 students especially women.
