Project Description
This project is part of CIDA's International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) funded by the Government of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy (YES). The IYIP contributes to the YES by providing a large spectrum of Canadian graduates with valuable international development work experience abroad.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (March 2014) include: YMCA coordinated 31 internships in nine countries. The interns assisted local partners by creating a policies and procedures manual and improving awareness of and knowledge about HIV infection transmission prevention and treatment. The interns acquired new skills and abilities that will increase their employability such as: monitoring and evaluation curriculum development analytical research skills communication skills critical thinking and reasoning youth engagement and program planning and delivery. They also gained experience working cross-culturally with children youth and adults and gained a sound understanding of human and children’s rights issues at the local national and international levels.
