Project Description

The project aims to provide safe storage technologies for farmers to reduce income losses due to food spoilage. McGill University is helping to enhance the capacity of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University and to improve the necessary infrastructure to guide the developmental efforts in Tamil Nadu region (India) focusing on the horticultural sector. This includes implementation of advanced storage and management technologies such as refrigerated storage controlled atmosphere storage and controlled ripening. The project introduces applied concepts of scientific horticultural storage practices among the stakeholders including local agro-processing centres composed of members from locally-formed self-help groups.
