Project Description
The project promotes improved health care particularily for women and children and strengthened education services and skills in the impoverished region of Haut de St-Marc. Rayjon has previously established two health clinics three elementary schools and one secondary school offering vocational training and has built their capacity to deliver health services and educational programs. This project aims to develop the capacity of health and school councils in strategic planning project management and fundraising to operate the schools and clinics sustainably.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results as of the end of the project (January 2012) include: 622 students in three elementary schools and one secondary school received quality education. 265 students received educational support and training to ensure they advanced to the next grade or acquired skills and trades. Over 18 months 29 587 patients were seen at two health clinics. The quality of service provided in the Haut de St. Marc region in particular to vulnerable infants children and their mothers improved. Outreach work through mobile clinics staffed by professionally trained health care workers provided important health care and education services particularly during the cholera outbreak.
