Project Description

The purpose of the project is to develop an enabling environment for education and confidence building of students with physical disabilities. The project aims to increase access to and relevance of education for children with physical disabilities in a poor rural area of Kolhapur District Maharashtra State in India. Helpers of the Handicapped Kolhapur (HHK) the local partner started an integrated elementary school with governmental approval in June 2000. Three hundred and five children with and without disabilities currently attend the school. This project supports the construction of phase II of the school extending its educational and adapted services to early secondary school (grades 8 to 10 for children aged 13 to 16).
