Project Description

This project aims to increase food security and crop productivity through changes in farmers' knowledge farming techniques and practices in three communes located in Northern Burundi. The project identifies 270 "lead farmer" volunteers (60% women) who are then trained on various topics using a train-the-trainer approach to become extension facilitators in their own communities. Canadian Food for the Hungry is working in collaboration with the Baptist Church to develop a commercially viable demonstration farm training centre to be used during the project and for hands-on practical training in farming improvement for local farmers after the end of the project. This is one of two components of a project valued at $499 950. The first component has been completed.
