Project Description
This project aims to strengthen strategic civil society organizations in Papua (eastern extreme of Indonesia) a region with extensive natural resource extraction activities where the population mostly indigenous is among the poorest in the country. A significant part of the challenges experienced by Papua is related to unsustainable resource extraction initiatives that are designed without community consultation and that often provide little benefit to the local communities. The objective of this project is to foster a functioning civil society able to better promote and protect the rights and interests of its vulnerable population. The project aims to provide select civil society organizations with the tools and professional experience to engage the indigenous population and address issues in the areas of good governance environment and HIV/AIDS which is particularly prevalent in Papua. Beneficiaries: direct: 6 650 people; indirect 75 000 people.
