Project Description

This project aims to improve access to potable water by creating an efficient rural water supply system that can provide sufficient potable water for 8 800 beneficiaries including 3 boarding schools 5 day schools and 2 health centres located in the village of Nyarugyera and its surroundings. This project uses a model of rural water supply (gravity-flow supply system - GFS) which has been repeatedly successful in the south-western region. The GFS carries fresh potable water from productive hillside springs to villagers at 36 strategically-placed tapstands. In addition community development initiatives in health and sanitation and environmental conservation are conducted. This is one of two parts of a project valued at $500 000. The first part has been completed.
