Project Description

This project aims to improve the quality safety and relevance of basic education for conflict-affected children in Fizi-Baraka District of South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The rehabilitation and resourcing of six schools (grades 1-6) provide learning environments for 1 200 conflict-affected girls and boys. The training of 120 teachers using a child-centred educational approach results in the reintegration of conflict-affected children into the community and improved school attendance and retention. The increased number of female teachers also serves to encourage girls' and women's participation in education. This is one of two components of a project valued at $499 548. The first part has been completed.
