Project Description

The project supports the strengthening of Mother Tongue Education (MTE) through the development of primary school curriculum and training of Ministry of Education staff. The aim of these activities is to enhance the capacity of 44 school heads 800 teachers and three District Education Officers to implement the use of MTE in grades one through three. As a result of this increased capacity 25 000 children receive MTE instruction (speaking reading writing math science and social science) to improve their learning outcomes reduce dropout rates and increase literacy within 190 Sabaot and Tharaka schools. This is one of two parts of a project valued at $495 600.
