Project Description
The Telecommunications Executive Management Institute of Canada (TEMIC) offers training seminars in the management of information and communications technologies (ICTs) to executives and managers in various organizations in developing countries. This training enables these men and women working at the policy regulation or operations level in the ICT sector to better meet the challenges of institutional reform and improved service delivery. The project which calls for the training of 500 participants offers 25 training sessions over 5 660 training days half in Canada and the other half in the selected countries. The project contributes to building the capacities of these countries in the ICT sector and to strengthening the ICT industry which is important for the development of the private sector not to mention the project’s significant indirect impact on other sectors of the economy.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved by the end of the project include the following: the Telecommunications Executive Management Institute of Canada (TEMIC) had offered nine training seminars in Canada and 12 abroad to a total of 452 participants from 30 countries. The vast majority of participants expressed that these seminars were beneficial for their career and enabled them to contribute to the changes that were taking place in their respective organizations including the following: Senegal's Agence de Régulation des télécommunications et des Postes China Unicom Egypt's Ministry of Communications Kenya's Communications Commission the Southern Africa Telecommunications Association (includes organizations from Malawi Botswana Swaziland and Mauritius) and Thailand's National Telecommunications Commission. It is difficult to demonstrate the scope of the impact these seminars will have on the information and communications technologies sector in the countries of intervention. However it is recognized that when effective this sector has a great capacity to create jobs while promoting the overall modernization of industries and services.
