Project Description
March 2013 - With Canada's support Oxfam-Québec is improving access to safe drinking water and sanitation facilities and improving health and hygiene awareness in Léogâne the epicentre of the 2010 earthquake and an area badly affected by the cholera outbreak and the 2012 hurricane season. Oxfam-Québec expects to assist up to 12 000 vulnerable people especially women and children over the span of this project. Project activities will focus on: distributing 1 000 water filters and hygiene kits; rehabilitating or improving 60 wells; rehabilitating or building 155 sanitation facilities and bathing facilities; training 250 community leaders in hygiene promotion in 60 communities; broadcasting 600 hygiene promotion messages over the radio during a six-month period; and conducting seven hygiene education campaigns for at least 1 200 families targeted towards families schools and the food service industry.
Expected Results
Expected outputs include: distribution of 1 000 water filters and hygiene kits; 60 wells rehabilitated; 155 sanitation and bathing facilities built or rehabilitated; 250 community leaders trained in hygiene promotion; and seven hygiene education campaigns conducted. The expected intermediate outcome is reduced vulnerability of crisis-affected people especially women and children.
