Project Description
March 2013: Colombia continues to face the consequences of a longstanding armed conflict between several illegal armed groups and the Colombian military. This conflict has a significant humanitarian impact on the civilian population. With Canada's support Action Against Hunger is improving and maintaining the health status of more than 9 500 people affected by the ongoing civil conflict in Nariño department Colombia by providing access to safe water sanitation and hygiene. Project activities include: distribution of 1 900 household water tanks and 1 900 household water filter systems; restoration or extension of two collective and 100 household water supply systems two collective basic sanitation systems and 100 latrines; distribution of 200 household emergency environmental sanitation kits and 1 900 basic hygiene kits; and provision of training for trainers on basic hygiene practices.
Expected Results
Expected outputs include: 1 900 water tanks and 1 900 water filter systems distributed; two collective and 100 household water supply systems repaired or extended; two collective basic sanitation systems and 100 latrines repaired or extended; 200 household emergency environmental sanitation kits distributed; 1 900 basic hygiene kits distributed; and training for trainers on basic hygiene practices provided. The expected intermediate outcome is reduced vulnerability of crisis-affected people especially women and children.
