Malnutrition rates in many areas of the country remain above the 15 percent emergency threshold. More than 70 percent of the population is without reliable access to safe water. In addition more than one million Somalis remain displaced from their homes. With Canadian support Save the Children is helping to provide basic healthcare treatment for malnutrition safe drinking water adequate sanitation facilities and knowledge of proper health hygiene and nutrition practices to up to 100 000 displaced and conflict-affected people in Mogadishu Somalia.
Expected Results
Expected Results: support provided to 4 community health centres (through the provision of training drugs and equipment) and 1 outpatient feeding centre (for the treatment of malnutrition); establish or rehabilitate 2 boreholes (serving 14 100 households); and provide improved shelter and basic items (fuel efficient stoves hygiene supplies) for 205 displaced households. In addition 30 community health workers and 80 community nutrition workers will be trained to provide outreach services and disseminate knowledge of proper health hygiene and nutrition practices.
