Project Description
January 28 2013 - with Canada's support Médecins du Monde is providing emergency healthcare for up to 213 000 people in northern Mali a region affected by armed conflict. Project activities include: the provision of basic health care including maternal and newborn healthcare services; the provision of medicine and training to staff in 27 health centres; the establishment of 3 emergency mobile health clinics to reach isolated populations with primary healthcare services and information; the screening and management of moderate and severe acute malnutrition of up to 28 756 children under 5 years of age and 7 472 pregnant and lactating women; and the establishment of an early warning system to prevent the spread of epidemics.
Expected Results
The project will result in improved health for a population of up to 203 000 and a reduction in the level of malnutrition in vulnerable groups including more than 28 000 children and 7 400 pregnant or lactating women. The expected intermediate outcome is reduced vulnerability of crisis-affected people especially women and children.
