Project Description
August 22 2012 - With CIDA support the United Nations World Food Programme is addressing the food assistance needs of vulnerable groups in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Project activities include the provision of nutritious supplementary foods to pregnant women for six months and for an additional six months while they are breastfeeding. In addition children aged 6 to 23 months are receiving supplementary foods through distribution in nurseries. Older vulnerable children are receiving supplementary food through targeted distributions in hospitals primary schools and boarding schools.
Expected Results
Expected outputs include: increased access to nutritious supplementary foods on the part of vulnerable young children and pregnant/breastfeeding women; and reduction in the level of malnutrition among vulnerable young children and pregnant/breastfeeding women. Expected Outcome: The expected intermediate outcome is the reduced vulnerability of crisis-affected people especially women and children.
