Project Description
With CIDA support the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is addressing the basic needs of an increased caseload of Sudanese refugees in South Sudan during the second half of 2012. Due to ongoing conflict the number of Sudanese refugees seeking protection in South Sudan significantly increased in 2012 from 85 000 at the beginning of the year to over 200 000 at mid-year. Activities focus on the management of camps and the provision in cooperation with other humanitarian agencies of food water and sanitation medical support shelter transportation and relocation of refugees to established camps away from conflict areas and protection to camp residents.
Expected Results
Expected outputs include: protection and basic assistance is provided to up to 235 000 vulnerable Sudanese refugees in South Sudan; populations of concern to UNHCR are registered on an individual basis; identified survivors of sexual violence are provided with material assistance and psycho-social support; and the transportation of vulnerable refugees to established camps away from the border areas to safer locations as a security and protection measure. The expected intermediate outcome is reduced vulnerability of crisis-affected people especially women and children.
