Project Description
With CIDA’s support Action Against Hunger Canada is providing water sanitation and nutrition programming as well as livelihoods support to respond to the needs of more than 54 420 persons affected by the food and nutrition crisis in Niger. Project activities focus on: the rehabilitation of 19 water points in health centres in Mayahi and Keita two regions heavily affected by the crisis (36 000 beneficiaries); community-based programming such as rehabilitation of agriculture spaces and support for vegetable gardens in 26 drought-stricken villages; and small livelihoods-related projects to prevent the further deterioration of resilience and coping mechanisms in vulnerable households.
Expected Results
Expected outputs include: improved access to safe drinking water; increased resilience in agro-postoralist communities and improved food security and nutrition of vulnerable households. The expected intermediate outcome is reduced vulnerability of crisis-affected people especially women and children.
