The Canadian International Development Agency together with the Liu Institute at the University of British Columbia the Asian Development Bank and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum hosted a Symposium on Food Security in Asia and the Pacific in Vancouver British Columbia September 16 to 18 2012.
Expected Results
Expected results include: Integrate food security further into the strategic agendas of key multilateral development institutions; and provide research information and policy advice to guide future programming in food security in Asia and the Pacific region.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of 2012: This Symposium brought together academics policy makers and private sector representatives to discuss research and policy findings on opportunities and challenges related to food security in Asia and the Pacific region. The Symposium was successful in highlighting the importance of Asia and the Pacific region on the global stage regarding food security. Participants discussed agricultural productivity food price volatility nutrition and poverty resulting from food insecurity and explored approaches to create market incentives and eliminate market distortion practices. A synthesis report of the Symposium presentations and discussions is forthcoming.
