With CIDA support CARE is addressing the immediate water and sanitation needs of drought-affected rural families in the Ali Sabieh district of Djibouti. Through the construction or rehabilitation of water points (wells and boreholes) and latrines CARE is ensuring that up to 20 000 people have access to adequate supplies of safe water as well as proper sanitation facilities. In addition 3 500 vulnerable women and girls will receive personal hygiene kits.
Expected Results
Expected Results Include: 20 000 drought-affected people in the target communities have improved access to adequate supplies of safe water for human and animal use; 200 vulnerable households and all community members accessing schools and health centres have improved access to proper sanitation facilities; and 3 500 vulnerable women and girls receive hygiene kits of essential items (including jerry cans soap sanitary pads etc). The expected intermediate outcome is reduced vulnerability of crisis-affected people especially women and children.
