Project Description
October 2012 - Humanitarian conditions in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo have deteriorated considerably since April 2012 due to increased activity by armed groups. The situation has remained particularly volatile in the east as insecurity and fighting continue to generate internal displacement as well as displacement to neighbouring countries. With Canada's support the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees provides emergency assistance to address the needs of 475 000 newly internally displaced persons and refugees in the Democratic Republic of Congo Rwanda and Uganda by providing emergency shelter and basic household items camp management and coordination and prevention and protection against sexual and gender-based violence.
Expected Results
Expected outputs include: protection and assistance provided to the estimated 475 000 vulnerable people of concern to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees; camp-based and newly displaced households are provided with adequate shelter; sexual and gender-based violence response mechanisms are developed; and the refugee population is provided with identification documents. The expected intermediate outcome is reduced vulnerability of crisis-affected people especially women and children.
