Project Description

With CIDA support CARE Canada is addressing the emergency water sanitation and hygiene needs of 45 000 refugees and host communities in Rubkona County Unity State South Sudan. Project activities focus on: establishing three new primary health centres and providing one health centre in a transit station; constructing 10 new water points and rehabilitating 20 existing water points; providing 25 sets of tools to the community for rehabilitation of water points; and training to 25 people on water pump maintenance.

Expected Results

Expected outputs include: the establishment of three functional primary health care centres and a health unit including recruiting and training traditional birth attendants (TBAs): provision of potable water from rehabilitated water points and yards; training on the operation and maintenance of water and sanitation infrastructure; and hygiene awareness campaigns to promote hygienic practices. The expected intermediate outcome is reduced vulnerability of crisis-affected people especially women and children.
