Project Description
With CIDA support Save the Children Canada (SCC) is providing water sanitation and hygiene services to 120 000 affected by the ongoing conflict in Abyei Sudan with the aim of reducing mortality and morbidity in children and their families. Project activities focus on: providing sustained access to safe water through the operation and upgrades of 6 hand pumps for mini water yards including maintenance repair and monitoring; the rehabilitation of 50 hand pumps and water supply support to 20 institutions; the installation of 100 household emergency latrines and 25 institutional latrines and the provision of 200 sets of maintenance tools; and training on hygiene and sanitation.
Expected Results
Expected outputs include: new water points constructed and damaged water sources rehabilitated; construction of household and school latrines; maintenance kits and hygiene materials distributed; and training conducted on safe hygiene practices. The expected intermediate outcome is reduced vulnerability of crisis-affected people especially women and children.
