Project Description

This grant represents Canada’s institutional support to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). OCHA uses these funds along with other donors’ funding to achieve its mandate. The mission of OCHA is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national actors in order to coordinate humanitarian response advocate humanitarian issues and humanitarian policy development. OCHA’s work focuses on its overall objective of mobilizing and coordinating effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to: alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate for the rights of people in need; promote preparedness and prevention; and facilitate sustainable solutions. Canada’s support contributes to ensuring that OCHA can continue to deliver and improve its coordination and increasingly its leadership role as it responds to growing humanitarian needs.

Expected Results

Expected Outputs Include: 1) Expanding the number and diversity of candidates in the Humanitarian Coordinator (HC) pool; 2) providing additional training and support for Humanitarian Coordinators; 3) developing guidance on cluster activation and management; and 4) enhancing and promoting integrated data systems to better manage OCHA’s resource mobilization allocation process and reporting operations. Expected Immediate Outcomes Include: 1) Effective mechanisms that manage and support accountable humanitarian leaders are established; 2) improved recruitment and deployment of qualified and diverse staff; 3) more systematic coordination of the humanitarian programme cycle; and 4) strengthened internal financial management.
