October 27 2011 - On October 23 2011 an earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale struck eastern Turkey causing widespread damage. The death toll was above 600 with more than 4 000 people injured. Tens of thousands of people were left homeless enduring freezing temperatures during the nights.
