Project Description
October 27 2011 - On October 23 2011 an earthquake measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale struck eastern Turkey causing widespread damage. The death toll was above 600 with more than 4 000 people injured. Tens of thousands of people were left homeless enduring freezing temperatures during the nights. CIDA's contribution covers the deployment of 500 winterized tents from its stockpile of emergency relief supplies managed by the Canadian Red Cross Society to support the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and the Turkish Red Crescent Society's emergency relief operations in Turkey. The 500 tents are expected to provide shelter for 500 families (approximately 2 500 people).
