Pakistan Monsoon Floods - International Organization for Migration 2011

14 October 2011 - Torrential monsoon rains in August and September triggered extensive flooding in Sindh and Balochistan provinces Pakistan. Based on an initial assessment of the situation the United Nations estimates that approximately 5.8 million people have been affected by the floods and about 1.8 million people have been displaced from their homes. The flood-affected population is in immediate need of food assistance emergency shelter and household items clean water and sanitation basic health care and support for the prevention and treatment of acute malnutrition among children and pregnant/breastfeeding women. CIDA’s contribution is helping the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to provide emergency shelter and non-food relief items to approximately 79 000 flood-affected families (approximately 550 000 people) whose homes have been damaged or destroyed by the monsoon rains and flooding in Sindh and Balochistan provinces.
