Pakistan Monsoon Floods - Oxfam Canada 2011

14 October 2011 - Torrential monsoon rains in August and September triggered extensive flooding in Sindh and Balochistan provinces Pakistan. Based on an initial assessment of the situation the United Nations estimates that approximately 5.8 million people have been affected by the floods and about 1.8 million people have been displaced from their homes. The flood-affected population is in immediate need of food assistance emergency shelter and household items clean water and sanitation basic health care and support for the prevention and treatment of acute malnutrition among children and pregnant/breastfeeding women. CIDA’s contribution is helping Oxfam Canada reduce the suffering and vulnerability to disease of approximately 70 000 flood-affected people in Sindh Province through the provision of safe drinking water emergency sanitation facilities hygiene supplies and hygiene education.
