Project Description
14 October 2011 - Torrential monsoon rains in August and September triggered extensive flooding in Sindh and Balochistan provinces Pakistan. Based on an initial assessment of the situation the United Nations estimates that approximately 5.8 million people have been affected by the floods and about 1.8 million people have been displaced from their homes. The flood-affected population is in immediate need of food assistance emergency shelter and household items clean water and sanitation basic health care and support for the prevention and treatment of acute malnutrition among children and pregnant/breastfeeding women. CIDA’s contribution is helping World Vision Canada is to provide emergency shelter and essential non-food items (including kitchen items hygiene supplies mosquito nets and water purification tablets) to 1 800 flood-affected families in Sindh Province.
