Project Description
2011-01-25; Starting late December 2010 Sri Lanka experienced torrential rains causing severe flooding and landslides in the Eastern and Central regions of the country leading to 43 deaths and affecting 1 060 273 people. At the height of the disaster around the 13th and 14th of January over 320 000 persons were displaced in temporary emergency shelters in the worst-affected areas. The disaster further resulted in approximately 6 000 destroyed and 23 000 damaged homes. CIDA aims to support CHF to improve the health physical security and household livelihoods of flood-affected families. Specific activities include: the provision of household items; the rehabilitation and cleaning of community wells and latrines; the delivery of hygiene and sanitation awareness training to members of flood-affected households; and the supplying of agricultural inputs (seeds fertilizer and tools).
