Project Description
21 March 2011 - Although several consecutive seasons of relatively good rainfall have lead to a recent decrease in the overall level of food insecurity in Ethiopia as a whole an estimated 2.3 million people must still rely on humanitarian assistance for survival as a result of drought or conflict in particular regions of the country. With CIDA support Oxfam Canada is providing water sanitation and hygiene support to drought-affected populations in the Oromiya and Somali Regions of Ethiopia two areas that are still suffering from the effects of regional drought. This includes the repair and rehabilitation of existing wells and boreholes and the creation of new water points as needed. In addition Oxfam disseminates essential messaging on sanitation and public health in target communities to help prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
